Insulated concrete formwork

BalPol ICF is a system of interconnecting building bricks made of expanded polystyrene. It is one of the best options on the market for building A+ and A++ administrative and residential buildings. EPS building blocks perform a dual function – it is a permanent formwork for reinforced concrete and an insulation layer for a wall. The modular units stack together like construction toys – two blocks are put side to side while the top one interlocks all of them. Such connection is very tight and does not require mortar or glue.

BalPol ICF system consists of BalPol PLUS main and corner blocks, BalPol main, lintel, ceiling support blocks, additional, insert elements and a set of plugs.

A new member of the ICF block family – BalPol PLUS blocks, which have plastic ties connecting inner and outer parts of EPS. We added these connections using good practices from abroad as well as taking into account the responses of Lithuanian construction professionals. Plastic ties increase the strength of the block, thus allowing to fill more rows of blocks with concrete per day. Moreover, BalPol PLUS blocks allow a builder to screw a supporting pillar into the block for increased safety and quality of the wall. In addition, the ties allow attaching structures to the wall using screws, not only glue.

Recommendations for use

BalPol ICF blocks allow a person to build a house with his own hands. Construction with our system is extremely simple and time-saving. It helps save lots of resources because there is no need for heavy equipment or skilled professional builders. The blocks themselves are very lightweight, concrete can be mixed in the simplest way – with a small mixer on site.
While building with BalPol ICF blocks, concrete has to be reinforced. 3-6 kg (approx. 7-14 pounds) of reinforcement is required per square meter of a wall (approx. 11 square feet). Vertical reinforcement is required at the corners, openings and T-shaped connections. Two bottom rows and two upper rows of blocks before the ceiling must have rebars horizontally if the building is simple and constructors do not specify otherwise.
Usually, only outside walls are built out of BalPol ICF blocks. Internal walls are made of bricks, gas silicate, ceramic blocks. However, if the building is a semi-detached house or a block of flats, walls between individual apartments have to be insulated and BalPol blocks should be used.
