U-shaped EPS formwork is used for the construction of rostwerk foundation. This type of foundations are commonly used when unstable and weakly bearing soils go to a sufficiently large depth. These are karst, forest, peat soils, quicksand, plant and fertile soils of great thickness (more than 1.4-1.5 meters). Also, this is an option in permafrost or clay soil as well as in areas with large differences in elevation. U-shaped EPS is a two in one solution – it is a precisely dimensioned formwork for reinforced concrete, which also performs as the thermal insulation of a new foundation. This system allows to insulate rostwerk not only from the sides, but from the bottom as well. Moreover, it reduces construction time by eliminating the assembly of the formwork as well as disassembly and cleaning after the construction. It is recommended to use EPS 200 for the insulation of rostwerk foundation. This type of EPS shows lowest water absorption after immersion as well as the highest mechanical resistance. Additionally, rostwerk foundation from BalPol EPS 200 has the highest thermal resistance on the market. The installation of the permanent formwork starts from the corner of the building, using the BalPol corner part. An opening is cut in the base part to allow the reinforcement of the pile to pass through. Next, the base plates and corners are assembled along the perimeter of the foundation. Rostwerk reinforcement is installed by tying it to the pole reinforcement. After completion of rostwerk reinforcement, the installation of the side panels begins. The side panels are assembled from the corner of the building. All joints must be additionally glued with polyurethane glue. Side panel joints should not intersect with base plates joints. The assembled insulation layer is fastened together with a long-threaded system, which is installed through a plastic pipe placed between the side panels and wooden planks are placed on the outside of the formwork (25×100). Long threads are installed every 0.6 m. and in the middle of the formwork. It is recommended to support the formwork with wooden studs every ~ 1 m. and strengthen the angles to prevent possible movement during concreting.
